The Isle of Tanera Mor, by Ullapool
Design and weave a miniature tapestry 18 - 25 September £585
Traditional cottages, full board in single room, reduction if sharing - please ask
The colours of the heather, the bracken and the sea, together with the wonderful markings on the rocks will be our inspiration. We will begin outdoors, sketching, drawing and taking photographs and then back in our studio, we will learn how to translate this inspiration into designs for our own tapestries, which we will then weave - beside a log fire!
This course is suitable for all levels but beginners are particularly welcome. The basic techniques of weaving are quickly learnt so that even the beginner can weave an individual and exciting piece of art.
This is also an exciting opportunity for those with more experience, to have the luxury of time to immerse themselves in the engrossing and endlessly fascinating art of tapestry weaving. Being in such an inspiring landscape will also spark new ideas on subject and design.
At the end of the day it is wonderfully exhilarating to take a walk around Tanera - perhaps along the cliff path and down to the old jetty or perhaps to the highest point on the island where you can look out over the Atlantic to the outer isles. A delicious home cooked dinner served in one of the cosy cottages looking across the water to the twinkling lights of Achiltibuie is the perfect end to the day.
This holiday includes: 6 days tuition (approx 5 hours per day) 7 nights full board (including wine) Ferry from Achiltibuie to Tanera Mor Afternoon boat trip around the islands
A loom and bobbin to take away. All wools, cottons, silks and linens.
The course will also include some drawing and painting - students will be advised on materials.
